2007 Grants — Science Rocks

 

This grant of $588.63 funds an after school initiative seeking to enrich student’s understandings of the fundamental concepts of science.  Although open to all 8^th grade students, the target population is students who are struggling in science.  The goal is to motivate and empower these 8^th graders to better prepare them for the transition to the high school science curriculum.

 

An 8-lesson-curriculum will be executed over the course of the 15-week program, including Motion & Energy, Moon Phases and Eclipses, and the Earth’s surface.  This will aid in better preparing these students for the 8^th grade Science MCAS exam, where in 2007 47% of student scored in “needs improvement” and an additional 10% scoring in the “warning” category.
