2007 Grants — Science Rocks

Science Rocks.jpg

This grant of $588.63 funds an after school initiative seeking to enrich student’s understandings of the fundamental concepts of science.  Although open to all 8th grade students, the target population is students who are struggling in science.  The goal is to motivate and empower these 8th graders to better prepare them for the transition to the high school science curriculum.

An 8-lesson-curriculum will be executed over the course of the 15-week program, including Motion & Energy, Moon Phases and Eclipses, and the Earth’s surface.  This will aid in better preparing these students for the 8th grade Science MCAS exam, where in 2007 47% of student scored in “needs improvement” and an additional 10% scoring in the “warning” category.
