2007 Grants — Position Active Inquiry

This proposal seeks to embrace an addendum to the No Child Left Behind Act entitled “Leave No Child Inside”.  With its emphasis on reading and math, an unintended consequence of NCLB was a lesser focus on other subject areas, including environmental education.

Materials purchased with this grant of $1,500.00 will be accessible to all of the classrooms at Floral Street School to help stimulate interest in science at the very impressionable age of elementary school students.  These materials will allow students to perform “true” science investigations.

Student projects will be showcased during the annual Biodiversity Celebration, June 6, 2008, where they will be asked to present their findings and work to teachers and parents.  I know I speak for others in the SEF board in that we look forward to attending this event to see first hand how donations to SEF are making a difference in our schools.
