Networks to Knowledge from Shrewsbury High School is an innovative and exciting project allows the students to work on the closed networking site Ning to collaborate online with other students to complete projects. This project is the 1st in the school district to use this virtual collaborative approach and allows students to gain college and real workplace experiences needed for the 21st century. Swift Digital Microscope from Oak Middle School is a microscope with video and still photographic and projection capabilities used to capture living organisms. This new microscope will replace the 15year old one currently in use by all 7th grade science students. Character with Class from Sherwood Middle School is program designed to help with character building and reduce bullying. The program will provide daily words of wisdom and thought provoking messages to all students which allowing teachers and administrators to incorporate the positive character traits into their academic areas. Around the World in 180 Days by Floral Elementary School is a cross-curricular enrichment project bringing a multi-cultural musical experience to everyone throughout the year. Approximately 25% of the student population speaks another language other than English as their primary language. This unique program will expose the entire school to the music and culture of other countries which will be woven into other subjects. T. DeBlois
Lap Time Reading by Beal and Beal West will help students who are not read to every night to gain the benefits other children might be getting from home. Research has shown children gain valuable language fluency from listening and reading along with books. 45 compact disk players along with books on tape and the books will provide the students who come from families who might not have the resources or time to read the ability to improve vocabulary and increase oral reading fluency. Reaching New Worlds –Connecting with other Cultures through Literature by Shrewsbury High School will motivate and increase sophomore participation in this multicultural literature piece, “ Crick Crack Monkey” by Merle Hodge. A short, easy to read work about a teenager in post-colonial Trinidad will allow the class to focus on higher level thinking skills such as analysis and synthesis, crucial for students moving on to higher levels of learning. InterActing with Technology: Using 21st Century Skills by Sherwood Middle School uses ActivClassroom technology utilizing a 360-degree classroom enabled learning environment. Using interactive white boards, Learner Response Systems and software to “hook” the already technical savvy middle school students to promote higher level thinking skills and allows team collaboration. Green Screen Unit of Study by Shrewsbury High School will be teaching students in the Educational TV Studio to use Chroma Key, also known as the Green Screen in which a video, graphic or picture is used. The project will be another creative production method for students and to study and to view as many of the projects will be used at public service announcements within the high school. M. Korab
Shaping Up by Coolidge Elementary School is a morning meeting enhancement tool to build a sense of community within the classrooms. These motivating geometry blocks, song books with cd and games at each grade level will be used throughout the day and encourage the students to take risks and experiment with new risks. J. Lotane
Marching Forward with Technology by Paton Elementary School is a new technology tool , The Epson Document reader. This device allows teachers to present information to students in a timely manner, rather than wait for photocopies or overheads. Students can share their work with the class as soon as they are finished enhancing the immediate lesson, the documents can also be saved to a computer and shared later or with others outside the classroom.
