2007 Grants — Coffee Cart

SEF's grant award of $801.90 will help extend an existing component of the Sherwood Middle School’s life skills curriculum - a program that teaches and enriches the skills that students will need to be successful in day to day life. These are the kinds of skills that won’t be tested on an SAT or MCAS exam, but as we all know are critically important.
The “Coffee Cart” is it’s own small business run by the students. They handle set up, sales, some food preparation, and the breakdown. The little enterprise generates enough revenue to fund itself. The entire experience allows for a great sense of accomplishment from its participants.
What is running a coffee cart if one can’t make the coffee? While today that’s simply too dangerous, this grant will allow for the purchase of “single serve” coffee pots, enabling the students to be fully independent in arguably one of the cart’s most important functions. By allowing the students more autonomy in running the cart, the life skills curriculum is better able to meet their overall objectives with the program.
We look forward to seeing the SEF labels on these new pots!
