2007 Grants — Audible Books

This SEF grant of $1,849.00 will benefit students at the high school who are struggling to read at grade level due to Dyslexia.  In classes such as History and English where a lot of reading is required, it is easy for these students to fall behind.  These students will now benefit from being able to listen to their assigned readings as they read along in their assigned text books.

Previous attempts to utilize books on tape on cassette or CD have been ineffective for a number of reasons.  This grant allows for the purchase of 9 MP3 players along with a subscription to “Audible Books” where the content from thousands of publications can be downloaded onto these players.  This will allow students to fully access the curriculum of their class while maintaining the same reading expectations of their classmates.

This is a great example of a sustainable grant as these players will benefit students in need in the high school well into the future.
